The Ray Bradbury Theater

Vol. 1

Synopsis:

Ray Bradbury's spine-tingling stories come to life onscreen.

The Crowd - After surviving a serious car crash, Joe Spallner becomes obsessed with investigating the crowd of onlookers he witnessed gather at the scene of his accident - and at every accident since.

Marionettes, Inc. - Unhappy at work and at home, Mr. Braling is excited to engage the services of Marionettes, Inc. - a company that will provide a robotic double to stand in for him. But things take a turn when Braling begins to grow jealous of his duplicate.

Banshee - At a lodge tucked away in the Irish woods, an eccentric critic and a skeptical writer make a bet about the lovelorn banshee haunting the forest.

The Playground - A caring father traumatized by the bullying he suffered as a child is forced to face his past when he takes his son, Steve, to a nearby playground.

The Screaming Woman - An adventurous young girl hears a woman screaming in the forest - and when no one believes her story, the girl decides to find the source of the screams on her own.

The Town Where No One Got Off - Provoked by a snobbish city slicker, aspiring writer Cogswell departs his train at a random small town in hopes of confirming his ideas about friendly country folk. But when Cogswell reaches Erehwon, he finds something he never expected.

The Coffin - Greedy Richard Braling sets out to obtain the fortune of his recently deceased brother, Charles - unaware that Charles has set up a devious trap.

Gotcha! - At a masquerade party, a lonely man dressed up as Oliver Hardy is captivated by a woman dressed as Hardy's comic partner, Stan Laurel. The pair run off together, and when the man wonders whether their relationship will last, his lady suggests playing a game she calls "Gotcha."

The Emissary - Martin, a young boy kept bedridden by illness, is grateful for the trinkets his dog delivers from outside. But things take an odd turn when Martin asks his dog to bring him a friend.

The Man Upstairs - A young boy named Douglas becomes convinced that Mr. Koberman, his grandmother's lodger, is a vampire.

The Small Assassin - New mother Alice grows to believe that there is something sinister about her baby.

On the Orient, North - A nurse accompanies a "dying" ghost on a train ride across Europe in search of a place where people still believe in the supernatural.
